TAXES for Dummies and Politicians Vote out anyone who supported repealing I-690. |
Our Governor, Christene Gregoire, is poised to strip away more of our tax payer rights by repealing I-690, which requires a two-thirds vote to increase taxes. My opinion follows.
1. Taxes kill jobs. When goverment raises my taxes, I fire people until I'm back in black or go out of business. Higher taxes also keep me from rehiring lost positions.
2. The initiative process is more important because it accurately reflects the will of the people not the corruption in Olympia.
3. Not raising taxes does not "throw grandma under the bus", as some have claimed. Putting children and grandchildren out of work by raising taxes does.
4. The fiscal crisis we have today was caused by the pigs at the trough, our politicians, in years past. When revenues were up we should have saved. Goverment spending is counter cyclical. Typically when revenues are down demand on government resources are up. Our elected officials have failed us by constantly expanding government in good economic times.
